A New York publishing house, a unit of CBS Corp., is suing Foxy Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, and Lil’ Kim, saying the stars accepted tens of thousands of dollars in advances for the books they promised to write, but the books were never delivered.
Inga Marchand and Lil’ Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, allegedly signed contracts with Simon & Schuster Inc. for an autobiography and an untitled novel. But the publisher says he never saw the books.
The publishing house claims it paid Brown $75,000 for her autobiography, which was supposed to be titled “Broken Silence.” The contract was signed in 2006, Simon & Schuster spokesman said. Lil’ Kim also signed a contract and received $40,000 for an untitled novel, Simon & Schuster said. The autobiography was due February 2006 and the novel June 2004.
Inga Marchand had several controversial issues with the law; in 2000, Brown was charged with driving without a license, in 2002, she was arrested in Kinston, Jamaica for an altercation with a policeman, in 2007, she was arrested for an incident in Broward County, Florida.
In an April interview to Billboard, Chaz Williams, the hip-hop star’s manager, said that her client is ready “to get on top of her career again.”
“She’s ready to hit the ground running and do anything she needs to do to get her career back on point.” The rapper is best known for her solo albums: Chyna Doll (1999) and Broken Silence (2001). Simon & Schuster also published 50 Cent’s autobiography.
