Fox TV Fined For Indecency

The Federal Communications Commission decided to reject Fox’s arguments that the reality program “Married to America” did not break the nation’s indecency laws, because the body parts showed naked were pixilated.

The Commission fined 13 Fox stations and affiliates $7,000 each. The initial fine was of $1.2 million against 169 affiliates of Fox Broadcasting Co., but FCC decided to fine only the Fox stations in markets where viewers complained about indecency.

Last week, FCC fined 44 ABC television Network stations for a broadcast of a 2003 NYPD episode. The indecent scene showed a boy surprising a nude woman before taking a shower.

The Fox stations fined by FCC are in Des Moines, Iowa; Nashville, Tenn; Detroit; Washington; Minneapolis; West Point, Miss.; Greenville, S.C.; Yakima, Wash.; Charleston W.Va.; Lansing, Mich.; Roanoke, Va.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Tampa, Fla. The total fine reaches $91,000.

“Fox strongly disagrees with the commission's conclusions in the notice and we will be actively considering our options,” Scott Grogin, the company's senior vice president of corporate communications said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

The episode for which Fox TV was fined showed graphic scenes from bachelor and bachelorette parties, which depict sexual organs.

“While it is true that the nude female breasts and buttocks shown were pixilated, the commission has never held that the full exposure of sexual or excretory organs is required to satisfy the first prong of the broadcast indecency standard,” according to the FCC order, as The Associated Press reports.
