Sony Japan prepared a treat for its clients, announcing the upcoming release of a new batch of PSPs called the Carnival Color series. The PSP 3000 systems will be available in four different colors: Bright Yellow, Vibrant Blue, Spirited Green and Radiant Red.

The Blue and Red consoles are scheduled for release on March 5, and the Green and Yellow models should be out two weeks later on March 19.

Customers will be able to choose either the standalone unit or the Value Pack. The first, which will include just the system, a 1200mAh battery pack and an AC adapter, will be available for 19,800 yen, while the Value Pack, which will be sold for 24,800 yen, will also include a 4 Giga Bytes Memory Stick Pro Duo (Mark 2), a matching pouch, a cloth and a strap. The company announced that the Value Pack will be released as a limited edition and fans should move quickly in order to make sure they get a hold of one.

For now there are no details about the company’s plans to release the new products in other markets. The strategy is probably to wait and see the general response, before going taking it to other places.

The release of such special editions has been used before, quite successfully, to promote a specific new game. Besides the standard Pearl White, Piano Black and Mystic Silver, customers have had the possibility to choose from a large number of limited edition models.
