Four teens from Council Rock High School in Newton, Penn.
have been hospitalized for possible overdoses on Monday after ingesting pills
known as Snurf.
If you’re wondering what Snurf pills are, well, officials
from the Council Rock School District
already have the answer for you. “From the information on the packaging, we
understand that Snurf is an herbal supplement with mood altering properties.”
They further urged everyone having this kind of pills to “dispose of them
immediately.”
Moreover, the Council Rock District Superintendent, Mark J.
Klein said officials went on with their search and found out that Snurf pills
are widely available on the Internet through herbal dealers. The pills consist of
pure dextromethophan, a.k.a DXM, a substance present in many cough syrups,
which can become a hallucinogen if taken in large doses. These pills seem to
make their users violently ill, though not in a life-threatening way. However,
they can cause memory loss, depression, anxiety, detachment from self, sense of
unreality, blurred sense of identity seen with ketamine a very dangerous drug.
The 10th-grade boys were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital
by ambulance after a resource officer at the high school saw their state was
altered.
“To the best of my knowledge they were simply sick, sick to the stomach.
They were not in an altered-state-of-mind kind of situation,” Klein said.
By Monday night, three of the teens had been transferred to
the Children’s Hospital
of Philadelphia. The
fourth had been released.
Police is currently investigating the case saying that
charges may be filed based on the outcome of the investigation. The names of
the students have not been released.
