Muzzammil Hassan, founder and CEO of Buffalo, N.Y.-based Bridges TV which launched in 2004 with a mission to show Muslims in a more positive light, was charged after reporting the death of his wife, Aasiya Hassan, 37, on Thursday night.
Muzzamil Hassan, 44, walked into a police station last Thursday evening and told detectives that 37-year-old Aasiya Zubair Hassan's body was lying at the Bridges TV station where they both worked. "He came into the police station at 6.20pm and told us that she was dead," said Andrew Benz, the police chief in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo in New York State.
Police say she had an order of protection against her husband and he had been kicked out of the house they shared in Orchard Park, near Buffalo. "He came into the police station at 6.20pm and told us that she was dead," said Andrew Benz, the police chief in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo in New York state.
The couple had founded the TV station in 2004, their objective was to portray Muslims in a more positive light. The couple had heard derogatory remarks about American Muslims on a talk radio show and got the idea for the station. The couple had two children together ages four and six.
Hassan will appear for a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Orchard Park. If convicted of second-degree murder, he faces up to life in prison.
According to FOXNews, psychologists and some American Muslims said this slaying has all the markings of an honor killing. These typically are Muslim-on-Muslim crimes and largely involve teenage daughters, young women and, to a lesser extent, wives.
