Biswamohan Pani is a former Intel employee who was recently accused by the huge microchip producing company of trade-secret theft and wire fraud. The former employee left Intel to go work for AMD and he is currently being sued for trading important information to the competition. According to Intel the information that was leaked concerned the newest generation of microchips and it is worth approximately $1 billion. Biswamohan Pani is accused that during his stay at Intel he downloaded from the computers in the plant in Hudson important information concerning new generation chips and technologies, which he lately used at AMD. The former employee claims that he is innocent and that the downloaded information was for his wife, also working for Intel.
If Biswamohan Pani is going to be found guilty of trade-secret theft and wire fraud he may be looking at 10 years in prison for the wire theft and a maximum of 20 years of imprisonment for the trade-secret theft. Prosecutors say Pani was going to use the information stolen from Intel at his new job with AMD, thus providing the competition with valuable information that can be used against Intel.
Biswamohan Pani pleaded not guilty and his lawyers say that he is completely innocent and that everything will be alright, everything being a big misunderstanding. Intel and AMD are the world’s largest microchips producers and the competition between these two companies seems to get tougher and tougher as times goes by and technologies become more advanced.
