Former Bolingbrook’s police sergeant Drew Peterson, whose wife vanished without a trace three weeks ago, said in one of the numerous interviews he’s had since, that he is "prepared" to be arrested, Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Peterson, who’s already talked to TV commentator Greta Van Suseren, Geraldo Rivera, NBC’s Matt Lauer, told People magazine in a five-page story that although he had nothing to do with his fourth wife Stacy’s disappearance, he expects police to come after him.
"I believe the state's attorney and the cops will be under scrutiny if they don't arrest me, so I'm prepared for it," the self-proclaimed "media sensation" said in the story.
The 53-year-old is considered a suspect in the October 28 disappearance of his 23-year-old spouse, who reportedly called him the night she disappeared saying she’s leaving him. Explaining the situation, Peterson blamed their marital conflicts, and his wife’s repeated demands for a divorce, on the mood swings she experienced during her period.
"That was a reality," he told People. "If she was PMSing, hungry or tired, her emotions were high."
While admitting "I'm not a perfect man by any means," Peterson said media coverage of the case has been distorted.
Police are also investigating the death of Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio, whose drowning in 2004 is now considered by some officials to have been a homicide.
"You're only seeing my dirty laundry. You don't see all the positive things I've done," he said, professing to be overwhelmed by the public and media interest in the fates of his two most recent wives.
According to his lawyer, Peterson recently received a letter which said his missing wife was spotted in Peoria, but close people to Stacy are skeptical about the news.
"I'm sure Stacy looks like a lot of people," family spokeswoman Pam Bosco said. "We want Stacy to come home. But this is anonymous, and we won't believe it until we get a call from police with Stacy in hand."
Since Stacy was last seen dressed in a red jogging suit on the morning of October 28, her case has made national news.
"I never wanted this type of attention," he added.
