The former Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett-Packard, Carly Fiorina, had breast cancer surgery Monday at Stanford University Hospital.
The surgery was a real success and Fiorina has great chance to make a full recovery, her spokeswoman, Deborah Bowker, told the San Francisco Chronicle.
“The surgery went really well. Her prognosis is excellent and she expects to make a full recover. She remains enthusiastically committed to a full range of activities and looks forward to ger future choices with great optimism,” Bowker said.
Fiorina, 54, discovered her cancer in mid February.
After serving AT&T and Lucent for 20 years, Fiorina became president and CEO of Hewlett-Packard in 1999 where she remained until 2005. During this time, she executed HP’s controversial takeover of Compaq for which she was highly criticized, although some said it was a real success. Following disagreements with the company’s board over the acquisition, Fiorina was forced to leave the company in 2005.
She soon started Carly Fiorina Enterprises, a global economic development organization. Recently, she joined the political arena, as an economic adviser to Republican presidential candidate John McCain in the 2008 election. Her experience with the McCain team prompted suggestions in California that she run for the seat held by California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.
