Former Beauty Queen Accused of Kidnap, Assault

A 25-year-old law school student and former beauty queen from Arizona is accused of having kidnapped and tortured a former boyfriend with the help of three other men.

Kumari Fulbright, 25, a second year law student at the University of Arizona and former beauty queen has been accusing of kidnapping, physically attacking, threatening with a handgun and robbing a former boyfriend.

Authorities believe she was able to do this with the help of three other men, including one man she had previously dated, according to the Associated Press.

Tucson police were searching Wednesday for the brothers Michael Ergonis, 46, and Robert Ergonis, 44. The third man, Larry Bruce Hammond, 40, has already been jailed on $50,000 bond. Fulbright was released from the Pima County jail on $50,000 bail.

The four face charges of tying up a 24-year-old man, Fulbright’s former boyfriend, in early December, with plastic cable and duct tape and holding him captive in two homes, the Arizona Daily Star reports on its website, citing court documents.

Fulbright competed for the Miss Arizona title in 2005 and 2006 and recently completed a semester-long volunteer work clerking for a federal judge, U.S. District Judge Raner Collins, his office said.

She won the Miss Pima County pageant in 2005 and was selected Miss Desert Sun in 2006. She poses for a 2008 calendar featuring women holding guns.

The AP reports authorities think the cause of the dispute was suspicion that the ex-boyfriend had stolen jewelry given to Fulbright by the former boyfriend suspected of helping in the attack.

Fulbright allegedly invited the man to her apartment, where he was seized by two men who bound him with plastic ties and duct tape, accusing him of taking the jewelry and threatening to shoot him with pistols, authorities said.

Fulbright herself allegedly bit him on his forearm, right hand and ear and threatened to kill him with a butcher knife.

Authorities said the man was taken to another home, where the assault continued, and then taken back to Fulbright's house, where she guarded him with a gun.

The man managed to escape his capturers and fled the house.

“He has some bite marks on him, evident and consistent with his account, and his hands were red and swollen, consistent with someone who had been tied up,” police spokesman Sgt. Fabian Pacheco was quoted as saying by the AP.

A police complaint said the suspects stole the victim's wallet, money clip with $500 to $600, and his cell phone and briefcase.
