Florida authorities reportedly arrested the pilot who tried to fake his own death by crashing the plane he was flying after jumping from it.
Marcus Schrenker, 38, was mysteriously missing after the small plane he was flying crashed in a swampy area in northern Florida, but authorities found out that he attempted to fake his own death because he was having trouble with some clients he scammed.
The man, who tried to make his death look like a suicide, was arrested and is now in custody at a campground in Chattahoochee, Fla., according to Lt. Jim Corder of the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office.
All the mystery surrounding the plane crash with no pilot aboard disappeared after a neighbor of Mr. Schrenker informed authorities about an e-mail he had received from the businessman. In the e-mail, Schrenker told his neighbor and close friend that his businesses are under investigation on suspicion of securitiy violations.
When police officers found him at a campsite near Quincy, Florida, Mr. Schrenker had "deep cuts on his wrists" as he apparently attempted to kill him self. The Florida businessman was hospitalized, but the cuts were not considered life threatening by doctors although he was bleeding abundantly when the police officers found him, according to a statement by a Florida-based U.S. Marshals Service task force.
He was treated at the scene and then rushed to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare where he was guarded.
Mr. Schrenker faces charges of unlawful acts by compensated adviser and unlawful transaction by an investment adviser. He allegedly defrauded investors through his three businesses before attempting to fake his own death.
