A Florida man and his 12-year-old son were fortunately saved after spending twelve hours in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. They were swept away by strong outgoing ocean currents
The two swimmers - Winter Park residents Walter Marino, 46, and his son Chris Marino, 12 – were found by U.S. Coast Guard divers on Sunday after spending more than12 hours at sea during the night.
They were swept away by the strong currents as they were swimming. In fact, the 12-year-old boy was dragged by the current first and his father jumped into the water to save him, but was also caught in the current. As they were floating in 3-foot swells, they became separated.
Walter Marino’s daughter called the Coast Guard after seeing that his father and brother were being swept away by the tide.
U.S. Coast Guard first found the father at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday approximately 8 miles from shore. Two hours later, the boy was found floating approximately a mile form where his father had been rescued.
Both were taken to the nearest hospital. Despite the fact that they floated on huge waves and in cold water, the two swimmers are in good condition, said Beach Patrol spokesman Scott Petersohn, according to FoxNews.com.
