Most stories of friendship between man and dog are about the canines that save or help their masters in critical conditions. However, that wasn’t the case of a Florida man who jumped into the water and punched a shark to save his pouch.
Greg LeNoir, a carpenter in the Florida Keys, took his 14-pound dog Jake for a swim at the beach. As they were swimming, LeNoir saw a shark swimming towards them. In a matter of seconds, the 28-month-old dog (a rat terrier) was grabbed and pulled under water by the shark. Local fishermen said it could have been a bull shark or a lemon shark
LeNoir’s first reaction, according to his account, was to yell. After he did that, the man dove head first into the water and punched the 5-foot shark in his back and head until he let go the rat terrier, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday.
''I clenched my fists and dove straight in with all my strength, like a battering ram,'' the 53-year-old man told the Miami Herald.
"I hit the back of the shark's neck. It was like hitting concrete,” he added.
His efforts weren’t in vane and Jake made it safely back to the beach. They both did and are now in safe conditions.
Jake suffered bite wounds, but there were none critical. He is expected to fully recover.
