Florida Governor Charlie Christ has implemented changes in his state’s health care system. His efforts have paid off, and due to his relentless work, the 3.8. million uninsured people in Florida will be able to buy affordable health insurance , come January 5th.

According to the Governor himself, in a statement issued on Wednesday, it appears that six companies agreed to offer a whopping number of 25 different health insurance packages in Florida. Each plan is different and consequently, the prices of the plans vary. Their types and costs are differentiated according to the county the person is from and if they choose a “preventive” or “catastrophic” plan. The average monthly cost of the plans was estimated at $155. Of all the plans, the priciest will end up costing you approximately $290 a month, while the cheapest will probably be around $50 a month.

According to the Governor, making these affordable plans a reality is getting Floridians “one step closer to having the quality affordable health care they deserve. This is about helping people, helping children, helping seniors and making a difference in their lives. It's about freedom and choices.”

The Florida Governor failed to mention one worrisome, vital aspect regarding these affordable health care plans, represented by the deductibles. Take for instance the Blue Cross/Blue Shield catastrophic plan, for which families must pay a deductible of $3,000. Some have criticized this more, comparing it to shoppers who look for the “best deal,”, when choosing a health insurance is a much more intricate issue.
