Thursday, the Federal Aviation Administration released audio recordings from United States Airways Flight 1549 that have revealed a grueling strife as controllers tried to find a runway in order to organize an emergency landing for the 1549 before they lost touch with the Airbus A320 after it dived into the Hudson River.

It seems that with all the tension and the haste to arrange the emergency landing, controllers wrongly referred to the Airbus A320 as Flight 1529 several times, while even the pilot came to misidentify his flight at one time.

When Flight 1549 took off from New York's LaGuardia Airport at approximately 3:26 p.m. EST on January 15, the last words from it were „Good day,” while one minute and 48 seconds later, the flight’s crew informed that they had hit birds and they were heading back to LaGuardia.

At that time, a controller at the radar facility in Westbury, N.Y., which had been handling the plane from the moment it had left the ground, requested the airport tower to halt all departures because there was an emergency landing.

The flight had been in the air for two minutes and six seconds when the controller announced that the plane had lost all engines.

Seventeen seconds later, Flight 1549 reported back to TRACON (the Terminal Radar Approach Control facility) that they were unable to land and that they might end up in the Hudson.

What followed was a desperate yet unsuccessful attempt to divert the plane to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
