The man wanted for gunning two people to death and taking a third as hostage was taken into custody early Saturday, Kentucky State Police informed.
The killer, identified as Roy Pollard Jr., was captured at a distance of about three miles from the crime scene in an isolated area of Fleming County in eastern Kentucky, according to Trooper Gary Thompson. Details regarding the state of the woman who was taken hostage by Pollard aren’t available yet, he added.
Several police crews, including a SWAT team, dogs and helicopters, were deployed all over two counties to search the killer after he shot a man and a woman late Friday. Another man was wounded in the shooting and was rushed to the hospital. According to the doctors who took care of him, he was treated of non-life-threatening injuries.
The police spokespersons did not say whether Pollard was related in any way with the hostage or any of those he shot.
After he shot two people to death and wounded a third one, Pollard sought refuge in a wooded area and took the woman hostage with him. He was believed to be armed with a rifle and possibly a shotgun, said Trooper Ralph Lockard. He added that 40 to 50 officers were searching "quite a big area."
"We consider him armed and dangerous," Lockard said. "The witnesses verified that he has a rifle."
The shootings took place about 45 miles northeast of Lexington and officials said that state police and Fleming County sheriff's deputies responded around 7 p.m. EST.
