Tuesday, five militants from the Gaza Strip were killed by
Israeli air strikes, even though Egypt
was trying to bring Israel
and militant groups in the Hamas-controlled territory to a truce.
According to Ynetnews, a missile struck the vehicle, killing
all five people from the car. Other people were also injured. The five victims
were allegedly Islamic Jihad operatives, a violent Iranian-backed group. The
attack happened in the town of Khan
Younis.
Dr. Moaiya Hassanain of the Palestinian Health Ministry
confirmed the death of five and said that other three were injured.
A spokesman for the Islamic Jihad's military wing said that
this attack was not going to go unnoticed: “Israeli crime will not be ignored,”
said the spokesman, according to Ynetnews.
The explosion happened while Israel
and Hamas had almost agreed to cease fire, being encouraged by Egypt.
Islamic Jihad said that, as long as Israel respects the truce, they
would do the same.
BBC reported that a senior Hamas official said that Israel and militant
group Hamas have agreed on a truce which should start Thursday. But Israel
didn’t confirm the agreement.
First of all, the violence between Hamas and Israel would have to stop and Gaza’s borders should be partially reopened. Then,
Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit should be released and the main Rafah crossing
into Egypt
should also be reopened. Also, the smuggling of weapon should stop, too.
