Five children were injured by a suicide car bomber in Pakistan on Monday when he blew himself up near
a school bus that was transporting children of Pakistan air force employees in
Kamra.
Lieutenant Colonel Baseer Haider Malik said that the
accident occurred around at 7:35 am (0235 GMT) in Kamra when the children were
on their way to school, DPA informs.
Kamra is known for its aircraft factories and air force
base.
This is believed to be the first incident that targets
children.
The bus was the property of the Air Force, according to
Tariq Hanief a local police officer in Kamra, located at about 65 kilometers
north-west of Islamabad.
According to him, the bus driver and a security guard were
also injured. There were about 35 children on the bus.
Malik said that they were not certain about who was the
author of the attack or if it was connected with an ongoing military operation
against pro-Taliban Islamic militants in the north-west Swat valley region.
Senior local police official Zulfiqar Hussain Shah said:
“The suicide attacker was in a white Toyota Corolla car, which has been blown
up into many small piece," AFP reports.
The attacker died in the incident.
On Sunday in Nimgole, nine people were killed in a suicide
bomb attack on a security checkpoint. Two of those who got killed were
children.
The bodies of three militants were discovered on Monday.
Army said they were killed by residents.
Chief army spokesman Major-General Waheed Arshad said: “The
people of Swat are now actively participating in the government's drive to
address militancy.”
Officials announced on Saturday that they have cleared the Swat
valley of rebels loyal to pro-Taliban cleric Maulana Fazlullah. They’ve killed
290 people and arrested 143.
On Sunday night seven soldiers were released unharmed by
Fazlullah’s forces.
Malik said: "The reason isn't certain but most likely
because they're on the run and they wanted to get rid of these people.”
