Former New England Patriots cheerleader Caitlin Davis, who was recently
booted off the Gillette Stadium squad after pictures of her with a
passed-out man covered in offensive drawings surfaced on her Facebook
account, blamed the fiasco on the guy's Halloween costume.
The
18-year-old, who lost her job due to several pictures showing her
alongside a drunk, unconscious man covered in offensive markings
including two swastikas and words describing male genitalia, refused to
take responsibility for any of the images on the man's body saying that
was just his Halloween costume which she and her friends found
interesting.
"The kid in the picture was a 'drunk guy who
passed out and was written on,' as his costume for the night," Davis
told celebrity gossip website TMZ.com
in a statement, explaining she was unaware of the signs at the time she
jumped in the picture with the "kid." However, the former Foxboro High
cheerleader said considers herself fully responsible for not being more
alert.
"Me and my girls left the dorm and went to another
house and came back to the kid passed out on the futon we were suppose
to sleep on," Davis recalled. "The guys ended up drawing more on him
due to the fact that he was the first one to pass out on Halloween
night ... At the time I had jumped in the picture with the kid, I
didn't realize what had been drawn on him, which I take responsibility
for not being alert."
As a result of her blunder, the
ex-youngest cheerleader on the New Patriots squad since the spring of
2008, is no longer with the team, Patriots spokesman Stacey James told
the Boston Herald.
Although she was removed from the squad, her pictures were still on the
Patriots' website, including some from the team's Oct. 26 game against
the Rams when she dressed up as an angel.
An upbeat Davis said
on her audition tape to become a Patriots cheerleader that the most
important reason she wanted to become part of the pompom squad was to
spread "a good image" for the team. "In addition to spreading a good
image for the Patriots, you do some good things for others," she said
