Yesterday’s television broadcast of the Super Bowl in Tucson, Arizona, was interrupted for some viewers by about 10 seconds of pornographic material.
According to a statement from KVOA TV in Tucson, the only viewers who saw the material were those who receive the channel through Comcast cable. Officials at Comcast said they had “no idea” at the time it happened how the porn may have gotten into its feed.
Apparently, the SD signal was hacked and a ten-second porn clip was inserted into the feed. The station received hoards of complaints from families who were watching the game and saw the clip, which showed a woman unzipping a man's pants, followed by a graphic act between the two.
“When the NBC feed of the Super Bowl was transmitted from KVOA to local cable providers and through over-the-air antennas, there was no pornographic material,” KVOA president and general manager Gary Nielsen said in a statement, adding that the network will investigate what happened and make sure the viewers get answers.
Viewers went ballistic with calls and complaints to the local media outlets saying the clip cut into the game with less than three minutes left to play, just after the last touchdown by the Arizona Cardinals, who lost the match to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I just figured it was another commercial until I looked up,” viewer Cora King was quoted by the Arizona Daily Star as saying. “Then he did his little dance with everything hanging out.”
