Final Harry Potter Movie a Double Treat?

There is hardly any chance British author J.K. Rowling will pen an eighth Harry Potter book any time soon, but there is still something to look forward to: an eighth Harry Potter movie.

According to recent reports, the crew working on the sixth Harry Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” have been told “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will be released in two parts. Not only will this give Potter fans an unexpected 8th film to look forward to, but releasing it in two parts will also give Warner Brothers the opportunity to squeeze out every last dollar in the Harry Potter franchise.

“There’s so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well,” British newspaper Daily Mail quoted a source as saying. Even J.K. Rowling herself indicated on her website that “It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long.”

With each book growing more complex than the previous, moviemakers were forced to leave out significant parts of the books when making the movies. Many fans were revolted when “The Order of the Phoenix” (nearly 900 pages) and “The Goblet of Fire” (over 700) were compressed into single films.

Reports had surfaced before the filming of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” that that film could be split, but nothing ever came of it.

Another claim made by the newspaper is that a high-profile director like Steven Spielberg is being sought out for the final film in hopes of making it an Oscar-caliber movie.
