Ferrari’s drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen crushed their adversaries into submission and won the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday after dominating the entire race.
The battle for the Formula One title sharpens after Sunday’s events, leader Lewis Hamilton losing some precious points after his right-front tyre gave in on the 43rd lap and forced him to head for the pits.
Massa got a grip on his pole-position and held it for 58 laps, finishing the race after 1 hour 26 minutes and 42.161 seconds. Just two seconds after the Brazilian driver crossed the finish line, his team mate Kimi Raikkonen completed a Ferrari one-two.
The Finn kept McLaren-Mercedes’ Fernando Alonso trailing behind and secured valuable points for him and off course his team. German Nick Heidfeld came in fourth, while Hamilton was able to keep the distance between him and Renault's Heikki Kovalainen, crossing the line fifth.
Driving a Williams, Nico Rosberg claimed the 7th spot, while BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica clinched the last point available.
It seems Massa feels right at home in Istanbul, managing to win the Grand Prix for the second consecutive time. He currently stands third with 69 points in the drivers’ rankings, while Alonso and Hamilton are separated by only five points.
“It's amazing. Third time in Istanbul but second race in a row from pole…I love this track,” Massa said.
The race started good for both Ferrari drivers, Raikkonen leaving Hamilton behind after the first corner and pursued his team mate to the final flag. The defending champion Alonso, didn’t manage a similar performance and watched Heidfeld and Kubica rush in front of him until the first pit stop.
The next event on the calendar is the Italian Grand Prix held on the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on September 9.
