Federer Wins His Fifth Wimbledon Title In A Row

On Sunday, the Swiss Roger Federer has won his fifth Wimbledon title, defeating the Spaniard Rafael Nadal in a 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-2 match.

Federer is the first player to win Wimbledon cup for five times in a row after the tennis legend Bjorn Borg.

Borg was watching as the world number one tied his mark, completed in 1980. The pair met a few moments after the trophy presentation for a quiet chat inside the most famous clubhouse in tennis.

"I had to be at my best, Nadal's a fantastic player and will be around for so much longer. I'm happy to win all the titles I can before he starts winning them.” Federer said.

Federer accepted the silver cup first presented in 1887 wearing the retro white jacket and long pants he has used during the walk-on before matches.

"You get lucky sometimes," said Federer. "It was such a close match. I told Rafa at the net he deserved to win as well. "I'm the lucky one today."

Nadal, who lost the chance to become the first Spanish player to win Wimbledon title in the last 41 years, congratulated his rival.

"To win five in a row is fantastic. I lost today but I played a great two weeks. It's a very nice atmosphere here. Thanks to everyone.", Nadal said.

Federer won his 11th Grand Slam and now the Swiss stands just three away from the all-time record holder Pete Sampras.
