At the French Open, the Swiss player Roger Federer moved into
his third semi-final after he defeated Tommy Robredo in 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2
quarter-final win.
The Swiss will meet the Russian player Nikolay Davydenko who
eliminated Guillermo Canas in a 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 win.
"A 6-1 happens quickly," said Federer. "You
you don't have time to play that wrong for that long, which is good.
"Happens, 20 minutes, you play the wrong way, and you
lose 6-1. That's just how it goes in tennis. So you better react quickly to
it." The win puts Federer into his 12th consecutive and 14th overall Grand
Slam semi-final. Davydenko is a dismal 0-8 lifetime against Federer, including
0-2 in Grand Slam events.
In the other quarter-final Carlos Moya will play against his
friend Rafael Nadal. "I want to win, and I can forgot that (friendship)
for one moment, for the match.", said Nadal.
Moya beat Nadal in March, 2006, in Miami
on hardcourt while the world number two youngster won their last clay meeting
in Rome 13
months ago.
Moya cannot dismiss the psychological edge he may be able to
use in what promises to be a battle: "Between Rafa and myself there will
be less difference than the ranking indicates because I know him very well."
The quarterfinals will conclude on Wednesday, when Serbian
Novak Djokovic encounters unseeded Russian Igor Andreev.
