Former Saturday Night Live star Cheri Oteri's father was killed in his Nashville home on Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

According to police reports, Nashville songwriter Richard Fagan, 61, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide on Monday morning in connection with the death of Gaetano Thomas Oteri, 69. Known as "Tom," Oteri was Fagan's roommate as well as his longtime music associate and publisher.

Early results of the ongoing investigation revealed that Fagan and Oteri got into a fight inside their residence at around 9 p.m. Saturday.  An hour and a half later, Fagan was taken into custody for DUI in another area of Nashville and admitted drinking six shots of alcohol. He was freed on bail the next day, when at around 3 p.m., a mutual friend who was told about the fight between Fagan and Oteri reported to police that the screen door to the home was locked and the house appeared to be in disarray while Oteri was not responding to the door.

The medical technicians who arrived at the scene found Oteri dead in the house, apparently having died from a "significant laceration" to his wrist caused by Fagan's knife, police spokesman Don Aaron said.

Fagan, who wrote such country classics as "Be My Baby Tonight," "Sold" and "I Miss You a Little," admitted to stabbing Oteri with a pocket knife.

Cheri, 45, has been informed of her father’s death, according to police.
