Farewell to MTV’s “TRL”

Sunday, both superstars and fans said goodbye to MTV’s show “Total Request Live,” when the franchise sang its final notes through the voice of Beyonce, who gave an outstanding performance during the last broadcast of TRL.

MTV decided to pull the plug on „TRL” by virtue of low ratings that have been registered for some years now, but they did so in style. By celebrating, with a final three-hour broadcast, the show that made the spotlight shine upon many of the current household names in the music industry.

TRL debuted back in 1998 as a television series that featured the most popular music videos, along with daily guests that appeared on the show, of whom P.Diddy has been the most frequent one. The lattter, present for the drop of the courtain, one never to be raised again, on MTV’s iconic program, deemed the moment as a bittersweet one, while rap singer Eminen expressed his sadness with regards to the series ending by comparing it to his house being torn down.

Total Request Live helped rise to fame performers and bands such as Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, Eminem and Christina Aguilera, all of whom registered their largest record sales during the time the show was living its finest moments.

Nevertheless, Spears, whose entire career cannot be severed from TRL, was nowhere to be seen during the show’s grand finale, although her first hit single “...Baby One More Time” literally closed the series, since it played as the credits rolled down for one last time.
