The Fallout series has been considered by enthusiasts one of the best games ever released, the older games being recalled as classics in a gaming world that some say it becomes more and more shallow and unimaginative.
The Fallout video games are set in a post apocalyptic future which is heavily influenced by the 50’s fear of nuclear weapons. The series consisted of two RPGs, Fallout and Fallout 2, a tactical RPG seen in “Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel” and one action dungeon-crawler released for the Playstation and Xbox, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.
In other words, Bethesda, the company which created Fallout 3, not only took up the challenge to create a good game but also to be able to match the success of the previous games of the series.
So far, Fallout 3 seems to be everything gamers expected from the series. The environments are beautiful, portraying a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C, over flown by radiation and toxic waste, with all of the city’s trademarks monuments and building laying in ruin.
The game manages to deliver an authentic RPG experience, the player being able to design how their character looks and evolves throughout the game, becoming either a savior or a villain. It is said that the story offers a 20 hour experience, but with some patience and if the player is captivated enough, there are many other things to explore, extending the overall gaming time to more than 20 hours.
Fallout 3 uses the same graphic engine as the famous RPG game “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” which behaves very well in the given circumstances. All in all, Bethesda might just had created a worthy sequel to one of the most beloved games ever.
