Facebook Tops The Tops

Due to its extremely fast growing network and popularity, Facebook now holds the title as the world’s largest social network, and also the fastest growing of the major networks.

The Web site had an astonishing 132 million unique visitors in June, which represents a major boost from the 52 million visitors recorded during the same period of 2007. It was in April of this year that Facebook took over MySpace’s top spot as the largest social networking Web site.

A study released by comScore shows that Facebook registers an annual visitor growth of 153 percent, while MySpace shows a much smaller user base enlargement of just 3 percent, with 117 million users recorded in June.

There is no doubt that one of the many reasons for this huge difference is the fact that MySpace has been around for a bit more and people are always looking for new things, Facebook offering a very good alternative.

The study reached a series of conclusions, including one related to the fact that the social networking trend reached a point of maturity in the United States, with a total growth of only 9 percent when it comes to new users. For the rest of the world, the interest is as strong as always, with a 25 percent increase in new users. According to the researchers, the Middle East and Africa record a growth on Facebook of 403 percent, Asia Pacific shows a growth of 458 percent and Latin America leads everyone with 1,055 percent.

“However, the phenomenon is still growing rapidly in other regions around the world – especially as the established American brands turn their focus to developing markets,” concluded the study.
