Facebook launched Facebook Connect for the iPhone. The mobile version provides users with social experience on their iPhones and iPods Touch. The new service was announced at the SXSW Interactive conference in Austin, TX, and developers were invited to show off their new, adapted applications.
iPhone and iPod Touch users can now take their Facebook friends, profiles and feeds with them wherever they go.
Facebook senior platform manager Dave Morin talked to the audience at the conference. He focused on three major issues: the introducing of Facebook Connect for the iPhone, the Facebook features for brands and celebrities and the new homepage design. The last two features were recently launched by Facebook.
The Facebook Connect service comes with several participating apps and enables users to link their apps with their Facebook profile and share the data with friends.
"For the first time, your iPhone apps can now have friends," Morin told the conference part takers.
There are currently nine apps live in the iTunes apps store and more will come. Developers can add social context to iPhone apps and take advantage of the Facebook Platform APIs. For instance, iPhone and iPod Touch users can now connect through Facebook Connect to their Facebook friends and play games, share reviews on movies or restaurants and many others.
The apps currently available in the iTunes apps store are: Who has the Biggest Brain by Playfish, Movies by Flixster Bowl and Agency Wars by SGN, Urbanspoon, Tap Tap Revenge 2 by Tapulous, Whrrl by Pelago, Live Poker by Zynga, Binary Game by SayEight
