Times are changing, and so is Facebook, by bringing forth some changes to the website, in order to make information sharing more efficient and to give users more control.
The site’s revamping process started last year, when Facebook introduced a new design and the Wall, which keeps users updated with information on their friends. This was ultimately the next step towards the Twitter-like part of Facebook, which users are about to discover.
Mark Zuckerberg wrote on the company’s blog about the increasing pace of information and updates that users take part in.
“People will no longer come to Facebook to consumer a particular piece or type of content, but to consume and participate in the stream itself,” Zuckerberg wrote. “In order to make this a reality, we must build Facebook to give everyone the power to share anything they want and connect with anyone they want.”
Among other things, Facebook also announced that the profiles for public figures and organizations will function like user profiles, and that users will be able to keep up with all the changes in these profiles through news feed.
Facebook is also adding some new things to the home page: “the new home page will let you see everything that’s shared by your friends and connections as it happens.” Furthermore, users will get to choose the people they want to see here, the updates they want to stop receiving and more. The changes to the home page will become effective starting next week, Facebook said.
