The Federal Trade Commission has launched a campaign against five companies which pretend to have found the right natural remedies to cure cancer.
On Wednesday, the government agency announced it pressed charges against the companies which misleadingly claim that their products help patients fight cancer. Saltwater blue-green algae, apricot seeds, mushroom extracts, coral calcium, digestive enzymes and herbal teas containing a jungle vine from Latin America are among the ingredients the products marketed by the companies include.
According to Lydia Parnes, director of the FTC's bureau of consumer protection, "there is no credible scientific evidence” proving that any of the questionable products “can prevent, cure, or treat cancer of any kind."
In addition to this, the FTC said it had reached settlements with 6 other companies. The rest of them will be litigated, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The Food and Drug Administration raised concern over the alarming fact that individuals may actually opt for these bogus cancer cure products, instead of following useful treatments to fight against the disease.
The five companies that will go before judges are Omega Supply, San Diego, California; Native Essence Herb Company, El Prado, New Mexico; Daniel Chapter One, Portsmouth; R.I.Gemtronics, Inc., Franklin, North Carolina and Herbs for Cancer, Surprise, Arizona.
As stated by Parnes, the other six companies were required to pay from $9,000 to $250,000 restitution, according to The Washington Post.
