The situation regarding Raffaello Follieri’s case is clearly
affecting actress Anne Hathaway, his ex-girlfriend, not only emotionally.
According to the New York Daily News, the FBI has confiscated the actress’ intimate
journals.
While the agents were in another raid at Raffaello Follieri’s
Trump Tower pad, they found the diaries of the “Get Smart” star and confiscated
them, hoping they would find evidences against Follieri. Agents also
confiscated photos of the Italian with Bill and Hillary Clinton, Pope John Paul
II and John and Cindy McCain, some documents, a Tiffany clock, an old Bible,
watches and photos of the former couple.
The actress was not charged and she had ceased all
communication with her ex, reported the sources. Anne Hathaway “has changed her
numbers so he can’t reach her,” said friend, adding that “Raffaello has been trying
to call her all the time,” reported the New York Daily News. Follieri tried to
give back to the actress a $250,000 abstract painting, using his associates.
The 30-year-old Italian investor has been arrested on
June 24, being charged with 11 counts of fraud and money laundering. Follieri posed
as a representative of the Vatican
and claimed that he could obtain properties of the Catholic Church, worth
millions of dollars, so he could live like a multimillionaire. The scheme was
uncovered when the principal investor sought an audit of the partnership,
according to prosecutors. He also asked for explanations regarding expenses
that were not related to the business itself.
The Follieri Foundation, operated by the Italian
businessman, has been under investigation sine the beginning of June.
Anne Hathaway, 25, and Follieri had been in a relationship
for some four years when they separated in June. The actress’s publicist has
previously emphasized that the star is not being investigated and is no longer
a board member of the foundation.
After Raffaello Follieri was arrested, he was taken to a
hospital because of a severe sinus infection. Now, a friend of the Italian business
man said that Follieri was “doing very badly.” Apparently Follieri is having a hard
time in prison.
“He says people are abusing him. He’s a broken man,” said
the friend.
Some friends of the business man said that he was still
thinking if his ex-girlfriend had anything to do with him ending up in jail.
Follieri was in Europe when he was
investigated, but Hathaway kept telling him to return in order to discuss about
their relationship.
“He was in Europe, working
on a deal,” says a source. “He didn’t have to come back to New York. He knew he was being investigated.
But she kept calling him, saying they needed to resolve their future. A few
days after his return, he was arrested.”
Anne Hathaway rep didn’t comment.
According to a source, Follieri wants a plea deal, even
though he hasn’t been indicted. His lawyer Flora Edwards said that Follieri was
“holding up reasonably well” in “a difficult and hostile environment,” reported
the New York Daily News.
Anne Hathaway and Raffaello Follieri were together for 4
years.
