This morning was reported a pileup on westbound I-94 near Michigan City, Ind.,
covered with ice, thus all the westbound lanes were shut.
According to Indiana
State Police Sgt. Anne Wojas, due to
the low temperatures and blowing lake effect snow, travel on I-94 and I-65 in
Lake, Porter and LaPorte
Counties in the morning
was very hard, wbbm780.com reports.
Police received reports about 70 accidents, with one non-life
threatening injury reported.
According to police, 10 semi-tractor trailer trucks and 10
to 12 passenger cars were involved in the accidents.
The highway had to be shut down westbound between U.S. 35
and 421.
Sgt. Wojas said that around 7:10 a.m. five semi trucks collided
at the 37- mile marker on I-94, that’s three miles east of the Michigan City exit. Other cars collided trying
to avoid the accident.
The traffic was diverted off at Route 20 in La Porte County, from 9:10 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory for
Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook and Will
counties until noon.
The forecast for the day is a windy and cold one with
clouds. In northwest Indiana
the lake effect might appear, with accumulations of 3-6 inches.
Temperatures will vary from 10-15 degrees, with 20 below in
the morning and below zero through the day.
According to the weather service, a large polar pressure is
forming above South Central Canada which will move over Midwest
on Tuesday night.
The wind chill is expected to be cooled by the wind gusts, Tuesday
night and will last until Wednesday.
