Police have arrested the stranded wife of dentist Daniel
Malakov Thursday, alleging she conspired in his shooting death at a playground
where he had taken their 5-year-old daughter.
Dr. Mazoltuv Borukhova was arrested without incident at her Queens home and faces murder and conspiracy charges in
the October 28 shooting of her ex-husband, NYPD Deputy Police Commissioner
said, according to the New York Daily News.
Dr. Borukhova denied any involvement in the killing,
confessing local television that she was shocked by her arrest. “I don’t know
what to say,” she said.
Borukhova’s lawyer, Steven Scaring, insisted his client “is
absolutely innocent and we’ll establich that as soon as we get to court,” he
said quoted by the Daily News.
The two former husbands had been embroiled in a bitter
custody dispute over their daughter, Michelle after Malakov had been granted
temporary custody. However, the man arrested in the shooting turned out to be a
Borukhova’s relation by marriage. The killer, named Mikhail Mallayev, a resident
from Georgia
was arrested January 16 and, according to the queens DA’s office, he had been
tacked by fingerprints found on a homemade silencer left at the scene.
Apparently, Mallayev and Borukhova exchanged no less than 65 phone calls,
including one before the shooting.
Mallayev is accused of shooting Malakov three times in the
chest just moments after the dentist turned his daughter over to his ex-wife
for a visit. He has denied killing Malakov and is being held without bail.
