Friday the court reached a decision and rejected Nicolas
Sarkozy’s ex-wife, Cécilia, request to ban one book by former friend and
journalist Anna Bitton.
Cécilia tried on Thursday to block the publication of three
books about her life in which she is quoted as saying that the president is
nothing more than a ladies’ man and a father who doesn’t love his own children.
Her lawyer, Michele Cahen said that she will make an appeal
to a higher court, AFP informs.
The three books are to be released this week. Cecilia divorced from Sarkozy in October last year and in
November president met Italian supermodel Carla Bruni, now a pop star.
Cécilia Sarkozy’s lawyers told yesterday to a Paris court that the book
“Cécilia” written by Bitton, entered her personal life, the Guardian Unlimited
reports.
The book already reached some shops and extracts from it
were published in different magazines.
One of the extracts is quoting Cécilia as saying that
Sarkozy has had an undignified behavior ever since their divorce. “He's not
like a president, he has a real behaviour problem,” the quote says.
She apparently describes the entourage of the president as a
“gang of young guys, drunk on power who take themselves for the princes of Paris.”
Cecilia was quoted as saying: "Nicolas is a
philanderer. Nicolas is stingy: a man who loves no one, not even his
children."
Lawyers are asking for a fine of 294,000 dollars per every
copy that is made public.
According to Roger Karoutchi, secretary of state for
parliamentary relations, Cecilia has denied making any of these statements.
He said that media was out of control when it came to
president’s private life: "We are now saying that he doesn't love his
children. This is ridiculous. We have to stop."
According to him, the president has a close connection with son,
Louis of 10 years old, he had with Cécilia. Sarkozy has two other sons Pierre,
22, and Jean, 21 from his previous marriage.
Bitton declared that she was surprised about Cecilia’s
decision to block the release of her book.
She said: “The book is based on the long relationship that
we have developed over the years as part of my journalistic work.”
The president suggested on Tuesday at a news conference that
his romance with Bruni might turn into a marriage.
“The publishing avalanche could be the crowning of a French
Lady Di - someone who has known the inner workings of power and comes back to
destroy it with words,” said Le Nouvel Observateur magazine.
