The famous Hispanic singer Jennifer Lopez was awarded around
$545,000 from her ex-husband, after the Hollywood
diva has filed a lawsuit to stop Ojani Noa, his first husband, to publish a
book about their life together.
Lopez married Noa in 1997, but they divorced after one year.
Lopez has filed the lawsuit in 2006 after Noa announced for the first time he plans
to write about all the secrets of his marriage with the singer. In the lawsuit
papers, Lopez claimed that he is violating the terms of a a preliminary
injunction that prohibited him to reveal details of their relationship. As a
result, Lopez obtained a temporary injunction to stop Noa from publishing the
book.
Today, arbitrator Richard Chernick ruled in favor of J Lo and
issued a permanent injunction forbidding Noa "criticizing, denigrating,
casting in a negative light, or otherwise disparaging" Lopez.
Jennifer Lopez was awarded $200,000 in damages from breach
of contract, $300,000 in attorney's fees and $48,000 in arbitration costs. Ojani
Noa also has to hand over to the actress all copies of materials.
Paul Sorrell, the attorney for Lopez, told Reuters that,
"I just hope he respects the order of the court," adding that,
"If he doesn't, it won't be over."
According to the court documents, in his never-to-be-published
book Noa implied that J Lo cheated on him during their marriage and that she
had an affair with Marc Anthony, her current husband.
Marc Anthony married Jennifer Lopez in June 2004, after he
divorced Dayanara Torres.
