The hype generated around the upcoming release of the new
Batman movie, ''The Dark Knight'' is mainly connected to Heath Ledger's
performance as the Joker, which is rumored to even receive an Oscar nomination.
Christian Bale talked to the SunTimes about the movie and
expressed his firm belief that Ledger should indeed receive the nomination, as
his unique ability to develop a character managed to amaze him. He also said
that he lost a friend and a great acting partner.
Gary Oldman enforced Bales statements, calling him a genius
for his Joker acting performance. Ledger managed to deliver a deeper and
different portrayal of the character than anyone expected, bringing a lot more
to the movie.
The movie will open in cinemas around the world on July 11
and is intensely awaited by Batman fans and also by Ledger’s fan base, as many
can’t wait to see his last performance ever.
The movie’s credits will end with a tribute saying ''In memory
of our friends Heath Ledger & Conway Wickliffe.'' Wickliffe, one of the
special effects experts, passed away in a devastating stunt-car accident last
fall. The whole team involved in making the movie, announced that their
thoughts go out to Heath’s father and that the movie will also be dedicated to
him.
The news that Heath Ledger passed away in January after an
accidental overdose of medication, immediately turned global, as he was one of
the most beloved actors from the new generation. He received a nomination in
2004 for his role in the highly acclaimed drama Brokeback Mountain, but didn’t
win.
