Well, well, well. It seems that presidential candidates feel
no shame in letting their friends down. What would an ordinary guy pick between
having coffee with a male friend and dinner with a woman (friend or not)? He
would always strive to find that bothering hunger somewhere in his stomach so
as to cancel the meeting he arranged with his pal and grab a bite with the lady
in question.
Okay, this is not something out of the ordinary. However,
when the guy is Republican presidential candidate John McCain, his male friend
is David Letterman and the coffee shop is the “Late Show,” he can’t just cancel
the meeting. Or can he?
John McCain really gave up his appearance Wednesday on
Letterman’s show, citing an important trip he had to make to Washington in order to handle a terrible
economic crisis.
That is understandable. Nevertheless, everything becomes
foggy and perplexing if we take into account the fact that John McCain was not
at all in a rush to the airport, as he found enough time to give an interview
to CBS News anchor Katie Couric.
In addition to this, David Letterman’s reaction did not make
things better by any means.
During the taping of the “Late Show,” the host told the
audience that John McCain had expressed his apologies for not being able to
attend the show, as he was in a hurry to the airport. Letterman kept on saying
that you can’t just suspend your campaign for an economic crisis or is it “because
the poll numbers are sliding?”
However, while interviewing MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, David
Letterman found out the real reason why the Republican presidential candidate
had canceled his 13th appearance on the show, and, thus, he played a
live video which portrayed John McCain getting freshened up by a makeup artist
just before the interview with Katie Couric started.
Who knows? Maybe the economic crisis McCain was talking
about was somehow related to Couric? Or should we call it an audience crisis?
You call it as you wish. I call it bad behavior.
