It’s not a secret to anyone that healthcare in the U.S. is currently flawed. Healthcare providers are expecting President-elect Barack Obama to reform the system but will it really happen?
Discussions about the American health care system most focus on the methods of expanding health insurance coverage. Unfortunately, the number of uninsured U.S. residents is rising speedily. It is estimated that 47 million have no health insurance.
However, this is just part of the problem as roughly 22,000 individuals pass away annually for lack of insurance but an estimated 100,000 pas away due to medical errors; the largest part of these people “were undoubtedly well insured," according to a critic.
Obama vowed that he would change the system and has appointed former Democratic Senate majority leader, Tom Daschle, to be Secretary of Health and Human Services and to be the leader of a new White House office for health care reform.
But in spite of the recession, Obama’s proposed spending on the health care will not be altered. At least, this is what he claims. In fact, additional jobs will be crated and the economy will be stimulated, President-elect said.
Each year, the leaders in the U.S. propose detailed healthcare plans "with great fanfare and promise, only to see them fail, derailed by Washington politics and influence peddling," Obama stated. "The runaway cost of health care is punishing families and businesses across our country," he added.
