Young actress Evan Rachel Wood denies being romantically
involved with her “The Wrestler” co-star Mickey Rourke, while also defending
former boyfriend Marilyn Manson against shameful allegations.
The angelic-looking Evan Rachel Wood and eccentric rocker
Marilyn Manson made for an interesting pair for the nearly two years they dated
and their split last month generated stories that they had separated after a
bitter argument concerning Wood’s brother Ira.
To rumors saying Marilyn Manson, 39, had thrown his
girlfriend’s brother out of his guest house, thus putting an unbearable strain
on their relationship, Wood responded earlier this month with a statement to People
magazine, defending her ex.
She told the celebrity magazine she and Manson had decided
to take some time apart in order to focus on their work and “someone used that
opportunity to kick us while we were down and sell a completely false story,”
the 21-year-old commented.
She explained that her brother never lived with her and
Manson and that the rocker had always been loyal to her and had “taken care of
me through the best and worst times.”
A few days later, Wood made another exclusive statement to
People, this time denying she was romantically involved with actor Mickey
Rourke, 56. The actress said she and Rourke “bonded” while filming “The
Wrestler” and became friends, nothing more. Ever the professional, she added
her hope that people would focus on the film and not on such rumors.
“The Wrestler” premiered earlier this year at the Cannes
Film Festival and was almost unanimously praised by film critics. The Darren
Aronofsky-directed film earned the Golden Lion Award for Best Film at the
event’s 61st edition. It is slated for a December 17 release.
Rourke portrays a former professional wrestler who is still
passionate about being in the wrestling ring. Wood portrays his estranged
daughter.
