Etta James blamed her sense of humor and acting skills for her recent outburst during a concert when she blasted both Beyonce and President Barack Obama in connection with Obama’s inauguration ball when Beyonce sang one of Etta’s songs.
Looks like Etta likes Beyonce after all, especially after her remarks have been making headlines over the past couple of days.
“I didn't really mean anything,” the 71-year-old diva told New York's Daily News.
“Even as a little child, I've always had that comedian kind of attitude. ... That's probably what went into it,” James explained, although she admitted to being irritated because Beyonce sang her classic “At Last” for Obama's first dance on inauguration night and that she wasn't invited to perform it.
Etta confessed she felt like being “left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around,” but Beyonce is safe.
James stunned everyone when she told the audience during her Seattle concert that she couldn’t stand the “Single Ladies” singer and that she would “get her a** whipped” for singing her song. The irony to the whole smackdown is that Beyonce played James in the recent movie “Cadillac Records,” and James said she liked it.
Apparently, the singer kept spewing insults at the show because “nobody was getting mad at me in Seattle. They were all laughing, and it was funny.”
The comments triggered various reactions, but no official comment from neither Beyonce of Barack Obama’s camp. However, a number of people deeply involved in the Inaugural festivities admitted Thursday it might have been better to have Beyonce and James sing “At Last” as a duet.
