Friendly days are over. In spite of the fact that Etta James praised Beyoncé for the latter’s portrayal of the 71-year-old singer in “Cadillac Records,” the affable bond between the two artists seems to have disappeared.
Etta James set free her thoughts with regard to Beyoncé during a show at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre on January 28. Among other verbal attacks, Etta James said she could not stand the “Single Ladies” singer and that she would “whip” Beyoncé for performing her song. The singer who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 referred to the fact that Beyoncé sang for President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama’s first dance at the Neighborhood Ball a couple of weeks ago.
Although she was not the first musician to perform “At Last,” Etta James has made the fiery track her signature song ever since she gained success with it.
During the concert, Etta James disparaged Beyoncé’s performance at the inauguration, explaining that the artist who played her in the recent movie “Cadillac Records” had “no business up there, singing up there on a big ol’ president day.”
Beyoncé won critical acclaim for her portrayal of the 71-year-old singer and has sung “At Last” several times since the release of the film, but the moments did not stir this kind of buzz until now.
The 27-year-old artist got into a pickle with another artist as well approximately a year ago, when Aretha Franklin criticized Beyoncé for saying that Tina Turner was “the queen,” a title that Aretha Franklin had kept for herself.
