Actor Ethan Hawke silently married his pregnant girlfriend Ryan Shawhughes three weeks ago, a source close to the couple told People magazine. The couple was spotted at the Municipal Building on Centre Street in New York applying for a marriage license.

Already a father to Maya Ray, 9, and Levon Roan, 6, from his marriage to ex-wife Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke and Ryan Shawhughes are expecting their first child together.

"I can confirm [the couple are expecting] and they are thrilled," Hawke's rep, Mara Buxbaum, said in late January of this year.

The two met while Shawhughes was working as the nanny for Hawke and Thurman's children and officially began dating after the "Gattaca" star's divorce in 2004, despite rumors that their relationship started while Hawke and Thurman were still married.
Late last year, a friend of Hawke's reportedly told the New York Daily News that the two "are incredibly in love."  

In August, Hawke said being part of a celebrity couple can be hard on the ego.

"It's unfair when one person's career is taking off and the other is really suffering," the 37-year-old actor told AMC's "Shootout."

"What happens -- it's not that they're jealous of each other; it's that the person you share your life with isn't in the mood to support," Hawke said. "You want to have a pity party for yourself, but they're off to the Golden Globes and you don't want to go because everyone is going to think you are jealous."

Just last week, Thurman, whom Hawke was married to for six years, announced her engagement to Swiss multimillionaire Arpad Busson.
