NASA has launched its Endeavour space shuttle towards the International Space Station Friday night and the launch was a success. People were captivated with the beauty and power the image of the rocket emitted. The launch was performed during night time, at 7:55 pm, under an almost full moon. This was enough for everybody to see the beauty and power of technology and how far the human race has advanced. Endeavour is headed towards the Space Station in order to deliver another crew member and bring in new equipment, vital for the people living out there, on Earth’s orbit.
The space shuttle carries a very important mission; the equipment it carries will be used to make repairs to the Space Station and make more room in order for the Station to accommodate more astronauts. The accommodations should be made for six-person crew missions that will be sent the following year.
Endeavour is commanded by space veteran Chris Ferguson and is carrying modules that will help construct a second kitchen, another bathroom, sleeping cabins and an ingenious recycling system that will help astronauts transform urine and sweat into drinking water. Even if this sounds like a Frank Herbert fantasy, the recycling system is much needed and it’s not because of a Dune planet with no water. The recycling system is needed because in outer space recycling is very important and there is no room for excess.
The successful launch of the space shuttle is the first sign of all things gin according to plan but the long road is not completely over. The space ship still needs to dock the Space Station and after that, astronauts to start making repairs and modifications to their orbiting home.
