Lisa Marie Presley would have made her late father, The King
of Rock ’n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, the proud grandpa of twin baby girls on
Tuesday, Oct. 7, had he still been around.
The famous rock offspring and music producer husband Michael
Lockwood are now parents to twin girls whose names have not been revealed. They
were delivered by Caesarean section in a Los Angeles
hospital. One baby weighed 5 pounds,
15 ounces and
the other came in at 5 pounds
and 2 ounces.
The information was provided to the media days later by a
publicist for Presley who would not offer further details. The mother and
newborn babies are well and healthy and currently resting at home, the
publicist said.
Lisa Marie Presley is already mother to a 19-year-old girl, Riley,
and a 15-year-old boy, Benjamin, from her previous marriage to musician Danny
Keough.
The twins are the first children for Presley, 40, and
Lockwood, 46. The two will celebrate their third wedding anniversary in January
2009.
News of Presley’s pregnancy first appeared in February, when
a British newspaper published unflattering photographs of the singer and
commented that she inherited her father’s problem with weight control.
Presley ultimately replied to the allegations, especially
when other publications picked up on the report. She wrote on her MySpace blog
that she had grown tired of the vicious media reports, the cruel comments and
the “horribly manipulated” photos and that she was, “in fact,” pregnant.
Presley stated at the time that it was unfortunate how such
usually happy news, of expecting a child, should come out in such bitter
circumstances. She compared the media to coyotes circling their prey and
eventually sued the British paper for libel. The publication later apologized.
It was only in August that the world learned she was
expecting twins, when mom Priscilla Presley broke the news to Entertainment
tonight.
Presley did not give in to the shaming accusations though as
she posed for the September issue of Marie Claire with her blooming baby bump,
taking cue from previous celebrities to have done so: Demi Moore, Cindy
Crawford, Britney Spears etc.
Lisa Marie Presley has been famous from the day she was
born, as the only child of music legend Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla
Presley. The two married in 1967 and divorced five years later, remaining
friends until the untimely death of Presley in 1977.
Lisa Marie Presley followed in dad’s footsteps and released
her debut album, “To Whomever It May Concern,” in 2003. She has since released one
more album, “Now What.”
