Elvis Presley Still the King among Top-Earning Dead Celebrities

Who can say there’s no life after death? When it comes to music legend Elvis Presley, besides life after death, there is also celebrity after death. According to Forbes.com, the King of Rock and Roll strikes the number one position in the top-earning dead celebrity list once more.

He was dethroned last year by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who couldn’t stick to the top in 2007. Forbes’ list of top-earning dead celebrities includes 12 other legends, whose creations and accomplishments have been much appreciated.

Presley “succeeded” in regaining his leading position from beyond the grave, with an estimated $49 million income this year. He was the leader of the top in 2005 as well.

Three decades after his death, Elvis’s estate continues to produce millions of dollars from music royalties, DVDs, licensing deals and tourism at Graceland, his mansion in Memphis.

Second place on Forbes’ list goes to John Lennon, with $44 million from the settlements made by the Beatles with Apple and EMI. Third place is occupied by Charles M. Schultz, creator of the “Peanuts” cartoon, with $35 million.

Schultz is followed by another Beatles member, George Harrison, with $22 million. Fifth place goes to no other than the genius Albert Einstein, with $18 million. His name and image are used in a variety of educational products, one of them being the popular “Baby Einstein” DVDs.

Andy Warhol ranked sixth, with $15 million, followed at 7 by Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss) with $13 million. Number 8 is the best-selling rapper in history Tupac Shakur with $9 million, followed at number 9 by the famous screen-queen Marilyn Monroe, with $7 million.

At 10 we find Steve McQueen with $6 million, followed by James Brown with $5 million, Bob Marley with $4 million and James Dean with $3.5 million. The top 13 richest dead celebrities earned a total amount of $232 million over the past year, according to Forbes.com
