Philadelphia is about to face a major historical encounter between two of the most appreciated music legends ever. Billy Joel and Elton John will reunite there on the 30th of July for a concert at Citizens Bank Park in the city where they opened their first ''Face to Face'' tour in 1994.
But before that, according to promoters who made the announcement on Tuesday, they will also co-headline the third major stand-alone concert in Wrigley Field's history on the 21st of July. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. starting Saturday.
The two old friends have been one of the most successful road artistic couple in pop history. In 1994 they made a wonderful duet on Elton's ''Your Song'' and Billy's ''Honesty,'' not to mention that they also soloed on each other’s songs (John on ''New York State of Mind'' and Joel on ''Goodbye Yellowbrick Road.''). Then in 2002 they shared “Just the Way You Are” from Billy and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” from Elton. Actually they performed six joint concerts at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, that year. 2003 marked their last tour together.
In Philadelphia, the two legendary artists will play their own set with their own band and get together at the end for a super-group encore.
Elton John and Billy Joel are both members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
