Elton John threw a lavish party for his 60th birthday his weekend.
The iconic singer celebrated his 60th birthday at a New York City cathedral on Saturday night, where he was joined by friends beyond the imagination of us regular folk.
The likes of Michael Stipe, Pierce Brosnan, Ozzy Osbourne and Bette Midler came to celebrate Sir Elton. Husband David Furnish was right beside the birthday man, entertaining the 500 guests they had.
After a party in London last week, the couple rented out the Gothic Cathedral of St John the Divine for a second bash. Among their celebrity guests were singers Rod Stewart, James Blunt, Jon Bon Jovi, Kid Rock and Eve.
Great actors such as Emma Thompson, Michael Caine, Richard Gere, Liv Tyler and Whoopi Goldberg, as well as fashion designer Donatella Versace, Billie Jean King, Sharon Osbourne, and newlyweds Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar, joined the party.
John ordered $18,000 (€13,500) of exotic flowers and 1,000 bottles of champagne for the party, which had a black tie dress code.
The party consisted of 40 tables for the 500 guests, with each table decorated with white linen tablecloths and several thousand dollars worth of crystal, silverware and Veuve Clicquot champagne.
On the menu was “cream less spring sweet pea and tarragon soup with buttery croutons, Niman Ranch bacon and crispy shallots, pot pie of roasted blue foot chicken and sticky toffee pudding.”
According to the New York Post, Scissor Sisters, Sting and Paul McCartney all performed at the event.
Elton John also celebrated his anniversary by reaching a record-extending 60 performances at Madison Square Garden. He was introduced to his eager audience on Sunday night by none other than Bill Clinton, the former president of the USA.
