"Grey’s Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo and her fiancé, music producer Chris Ivery enjoyed a low-key civil ceremony at New York’s City Hall over the weekend.
"They are over the moon," Pompeo's publicist, Jennifer Allen, told Boston Globe of the newlyweds.
Just as she once promised, the actress and Ivery, both 38, had a very small and quiet ceremony on Friday in Lower Manhattan, in the company of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and First Deputy Mayor Patti Harris who served as the couple's witnesses and were the only people present for the civil vow swap.
“The Mayor was in midtown for his weekly radio show, and he came back [downtown] for a series of meetings at City Hall, and this was one of the things he had planned," Bloomberg's rep, Stu Loeser, told Us Weekly. "The Mayor was gracious."
He offered his best wishes to the couple and "a lifetime of happiness."
"We have a lot in common," Ellen was quoted by People as saying about Ivery. "We're from the same hometown, almost."
According to Allen, the whole ceremony barely lasted several minutes, and there was no lavish party, white dress or cake.
"I'm very happy for her," Ellen’s dad, Joseph Pompeo said Wednesday. "She just didn't want a big thing."
The two lovebirds were spotted at the Knicks game Sunday night at Madison Square Garden before Ellen returned to Hollywood to continue filming "Grey’s Anatomy," which is slightly endangered by the writers strike.
The pair, who bumped into each other at a grocery store, dated for three years before announcing their engagement last November.
