Due to the recent California
law that lifted the ban on same-sex marriage, Ellen DeGeneres, 50, and Portia
de Rossi, 35, got hitched on Saturday.
According to the confirmation of DeGenetes’s publicist, the
two ladies who for some time form one of the world’s most famous lesbian
couples, walked down the aisle at their Beverly
Hills crib around 8.30 p.m. two days ago. People glossy magazine reported that only 19
guests attended the event, all togged up in summer formal garments.
DeGeneres and de Rossi’s romance started almost four years
ago, on December 2004. Because same-sex marriage was banned in the state of California, the pair
couldn’t obtain a wedding license.
But on May 14 this year, the California
Supreme Court struck down the ban by ruling it unconstitutional. And the next
day Ellen declared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that she and Portia had
wedding plans. “I can’t wait to be married. I feel like it's long overdue.”
The lesbian couple both wore clothes by the American fashion
designer Zac Posen. Portia de Rossi, best known for her roles as attorney Nelle
Porter on the television series “Ally McBeal,” put on a backless, light pink
beautiful dress, while her partner wore a pair of trousers, a button-up shirt
and vest – all of them white colored. They exchanged rings by celebrity jeweler
Neil Lane, E!
Online reported.
"They were hugging and kissing, and looked
ecstatic," a witness said.
