They finally got to do it! Successful talk show host Ellen
DeGeneres and her long time girlfriend, actress Portia de Rossi have tied the
knot.
The big event took place this week-end at their lush Los Angeles home. The
ceremony was intimate, including close family members of the brides (?). As
People reported, 19 people attended the wedding. Among the guests, there were
Ellen DeGeneres’ mother Betty and de Rossi’s mom, Margaret Rogers. The latter
flew from Australia
to be present at her daughter’s wedding ceremony. There were no other
celebrities present at the event.
Both 50-year old Ellen DeGeneres and 35-year old de Rossi
wore Zac Posen and the rings they exchanged were signed by Neil Lane. The pair exchanged handwritten
vows. The flower adornments were provided by the LA florist Mark’s Garden,
according to reports by People.
The happy event was confirmed by a spokesperson. “Ellen
DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi were married tonight in an intimate ceremony at
their home in Los Angeles.”
The two women have been dating since December 2004. Their
wedding plans were disclosed in May, just after California Supreme Court ruled
that the ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional. During a taping of her talk
show, she revealed that she was finally getting married and joked that she
would tell the name of the lucky guy latter. The news was received with
cheerful applause at the time.
Soon, Portia de Rossi was spotted sporting a pink diamond
ring on her finger. The 3-carat marquise-cut diamond ring set on a pink pave
band made its debut on the finger of the “Ally McBeal” star in June, when the
couple attended the Daytime Emmy Awards. At that moment, Ellen DeGeneres was
winning her forth statue in a row at the Outstanding Talk Show Host category.
Media reported that the star joked that their wedding cake would be adorned
with her Emmy trophies.
“Planning a wedding is very stressful. It is crazy. My
gardener is now invited,” DeGeneres said at the time on the red carpet preceding
the event.
DeGeneres and de Rossi bought together a lush
8,500-square-foot Cabrillo Drive
home last year. There were rumors that the couple was intending to completely
gate off their end of the street, making their home an even more ultra-private
abode, but the decision hang on the results of a public hearing, as E!Online
reported.
The successful TV talk show host explained that the two of
them were very happy together. “She’s taught me lessons about myself, and I
feel like I've taught her. We've both changed and grown, and we just feel like,
'Oh, okay, this is completion,” DeGeneres said the last year.
